“He makes the barren woman abide in the house as a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!”
Psalm 113:9. Twelve years ago, we entered into marriage ready to have it all—career, house, status. As the years went by God showed us our great need for fellowship and relationship with Him. He revealed the emptiness of the things we sought after as He called us into a truer understanding of His plan for our time on this earth. One of the means He used to draw us closer to Him was our ‘unexplained infertility’. Month after month, year after year we waited for good news to share with our family and friends that we would be welcoming a child into our home. But time and time again we had no such news to share. The barrenness of our bodies led us to see the barrenness of our pursuits. We began to seek the Lord with all of our hearts individually and as a couple. There was a wonderful freshness that entered our lives- our marriage experienced a wonderful renewed sense of passion and vitality. As the Lord taught us so much about Himself through His word, our hopes to become parents became stronger. We began to understand God’s ultimate purpose for giving children and how seriously He took the role of mother and father. We were contacted by a young lady who desired to give up her unborn child for adoption (out of the blue!) As we began to speak with her we realized that we needed some mature wisdom to guide us through this process. Pastor Vince and His Kids ministry really helped us as we walked through this unchartered territory!

As time went on, that young lady changed her mind and we were left wondering if adoption was indeed in God’s plan for us. Through much prayer and testing, we continued with our adoption plans as we had now been in contact with a Christian adoption agency. So many things seemed like giants to us in those first few months; the paperwork, the funds, the unknown, but Pastor Vince stood with us and encouraged us with prayer and resources as the needs presented themselves. In June 2010, we welcomed a sweet little boy into our home! We have learned to trust God to meet our daily needs and to provide wisdom for the next step. Our prayer is that our child will come to know Christ early in his life and that he will not only be our son but our brother in the faith. We are so grateful for the His Kids ministry and our CBC family and the opportunity to see God give us such beauty for ashes!
